Now working as an English language teacher and explaining the grammar rules to my students, I use the “flipped” teaching approach, which I get acquainted with via Massive Open Online Courses. Through the videos created by me I explain students the basic grammar rules and upload the videos on our social media pages. They watch the videos at home and in the classroom we do a lot of grammar activities. This technique helps me and my students to save our time and combine traditional face-to-face way of teaching with the technology use.
Here's one of my videos on Conditionals:
Hope you will enjoy it:)
Wow! It is great!
ReplyDeletePreviously, I do not know about flipped teaching approach and I have a question.
Does the use of differentiation through the flipped classroom, in which students watch video lectures for homework and complete traditional homework assignments in class, allow for increased understanding of concepts?
Yelena, thanks a lot for your question. The answer is positive. The Flipped teaching approach helps a lot with differentiated learning. The reason is that at home students may watch the videos hundred times and in the classroom we mainly discuss the questions they have about the video content and then do the grammar tasks. You know, I noticed that with this teaching approach you don't even need a teacher in the classroom. Because students teach and explain the video content each other.
DeleteHurray for you and for flipped classrooms. How terrific, Assem!! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Monica! Flipped classroom really makes a sense.
DeleteGreat, flipped classroom is a nice option for limited class hours and big amount of students)well done)
ReplyDeleteMadina, thanks a lot for your comment. I guess we can talk about the merits of flipped classroom for ages:)
DeleteFlipped teaching is a great way to make available learning to everyone! You are able to communicate with your peers in a way that will help you learn things in ways that education does not! Great work!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alyssa! You are totally right, flipped learning makes education more and more available, which is really good for students who can't allow going to school or college.
DeleteI like this idea of the flipped classroom. I feel that in schools we are taking too much time to watch the video in class and then try to have a discussion involving the same video. This would save valuable time. Though however, in America we are moving away from the concept of "homework", so unfortunately I am not too sure how much longer this concept will be around.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for your comment, Christine. That's really interesting that the USA is moving away from the concept of "homework". Does it mean that students don't have to do their home assignments after school or didn't get it right? Thank you.
DeleteHi my name is Kevin, I am currently a student of Monica and she shared with me along with other students a video you created. I found it very helpful with the advice you gave about there being failures that lead up to success. This is something I will hold on to going into my career once out of college.
ReplyDeleteHello, Kevin. Many thanks for your comment. You know, before starting my teaching career I "trained" myself a lot, the whole summer I watched videos about first-year teaching tips, read survival guide for beginning teachers, went through an online course about surving your rookie year of teaching. But when it came to real teaching in the classroom I realized that only parctice makes it perfect, so I have to work on it a lot. In case you enjoy watching videos about teaching here are some of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O7v4EJjx-g&t=168s,

Hi, my name is Nick and I am in one of Monica's classes. She shared your stories with our class and I found it very interesting. I can't wait to continue to read about your experiences. Feel free to contact me at nick.fecteau12@gmail.com or add me on Facebook if you have one, Nick Fecteau. Hope to hear from you soon!
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Stephanie Cocozza and I am currently in one of Monica's classes, and she has so graciously introduced us to you. I really enjoyed watching your videos because you speak so passionately about teaching, and you have inspired me to not look as my mistakes as bad things, but as things that will help immensely in the future. I look forward to your future posts and I hope you continue to inspire your students, as you inspire us.
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Abby and I am also a student of Monicas'. I really like this idea of a flipped classroom because I feel that it is important for students to gain presentation skills. Also sometimes it is more helpful for a different person to explain the material rater than the teacher.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Brooke and I really enjoy hearing you talk about yourself and your teaching methods.Flipping classrooms is an interesting concept and might be innovative for our future generations.
